🤘 This is a picu Pro feature
The text filter lets clients search for specific images within a collection by typing into a search field. Results update instantly as they type.
How It Works
The search field appears in the filter bar at the top of the collection, alongside the selected/unselected and star rating filters. As the client types, any image that doesn’t match the query is hidden. When they clear the field, all images reappear.
If the search returns no results, picu displays a message with a link to clear the search and show all images again.
What Gets Searched
The text filter searches across four pieces of information for each image:
- Filename – the original file name of the image (e.g.
DSC_0042.jpg) - Title – read from the IPTC metadata embedded in the image file
- Description – read from the IPTC metadata embedded in the image file
- Keywords – read from the IPTC metadata embedded in the image file
The search is case-insensitive and all four fields are searched simultaneously.
How to Add Meta Data
If you want clients to be able to search by subject, location, or any other tag, embed the relevant metadata in your images before uploading them. Most photo editing and asset management applications (Lightroom, Capture One, Photo Mechanic, etc.) support writing IPTC titles, descriptions, and keywords, which picu reads automatically on import.
Combining Filters
The text filter works alongside the other filters. For example, a client can filter by star rating first to narrow down their favorites, then use the text filter to find a specific image within those results. All active filters are applied at the same time.
Use the Reset all button to clear every active filter at once.
