It’s been a while since our last update post and a lot has happened in the meantime. Let’s dive straight in to what we’ve been up to.
E-commerce: Sell Images with picu
We released picu e-commerce which lets you sell images right from your proofing galleries. This initial release includes the possibility to accept payments directly through Stripe, work with taxes, and set the currency of your store. The pricing can be set either as a price per image or package pricing with overage rates, which makes it very flexible to adjust to your workflow.
This feature is part of picu Pro so all Pro subscribers get this functionality for free with no additional cost. To start selling images, please make sure that you update both the picu core plugin to version 3+ and picu Pro to version 2+ and you’re good to go!
This is only the beginning, and we have lots of plans to improve these features in upcoming updates. If you have anything to say about our e-commerce features, or questions and ideas about how it works or things you miss, please get in touch with us, we love to hear from you!
Translation Update
A big release usually comes with a lot of new strings to translate. Which is why if you are using picu in a language other than English, there is a chance you see some strings that are not translated yet. We are working on it and already got the language packs for German & German (Switzerland) fully translated, with more to follow soon.
Keep an eye on the updates panel in WP admin so you don’t miss new translations when they are out. And please let us know, if you see anything that is missing or incorrect.
WPML Compatibility Update
Some customers reported issues when WPML and the Media Translation extension were installed, where in some cases proofing images could show up in the media library where they are not supposed to show up. This has been fixed with picu v2.5.5 which was released on May 9th, 2025.
WordCamp Europe in Basel
In the beginning of June, the official European WordPress Conference – WordCamp Europe – brought over 1’700 WordPress enthusiasts to Basel, Switzerland (one of our home-countries) for three days of knowledge-sharing, learning new things and discussing all things WordPress and Open Source. We were there as attendees and also helped out in the organising team to make this event a reality. It’s always a pleasure to meet fellow plugin developers, designers and entrepreneurs and we came back with lots of motivation and new ideas for picu. Some photos of the event can be found in Florian’s photo blog, for day 1 and day 2.
Blogposts
Apart from the news mentioned above, we also published a few new blogposts that might be interesting to you as a photographer:
- Pricing Guide for Photographers: Pricing your photography services can feel like walking a tightrope. Set your prices too low, and you risk burnout and razor-thin margins. If you charge too much, potential clients might walk away before you even have a chance to show your work.
- AI in Photography: Artificial intelligence has quietly (and not-so-quietly) made its way into almost every part of a photographer’s workflow. In this article, we’ll explore practical use cases for photographers, what’s controversial, and how to use AI responsibly without compromising your craft.
- Local SEO for Photographers: Local SEO helps your photography website rank higher in location-based searches. The key is a combination of an optimized website, a well-maintained Google Business profile, and strategic content marketing. Learn how to do it in our guide.
