Update – January 2025

A graphic with a dark background and light text, stating "Quick Update: January 2025 – A quick look behind the scenes, what we've been up to the past month asnd what to expect next!"

We spent most of January working on our upcoming e-commerce functionality, which comes together nicely and is at the moment in an early alpha-stage.

Here’s a quick update about what we’ve been up to this past month, and what to expect next.

Let’s jump straight in.

E-Commerce – Alpha 1

In our December update, we hoped to be able to ship a very first version to our beta testers until January. While cutting it close, we delivered Alpha 1 on January 30.

Right now, we are fixing and adding some of the things that didn’t make it into alpha1, and collecting feedback from our selected group of testers. After that we will probably release one or two more pre-release versions before bringing the final release to all of our Pro subscribers.

If you are eagerly waiting to use picu to sell images, and want to know more, head over to our dev log where we published two updates about the current status:

Also, please feel free to let us know or even send us your idea of a perfect e-commerce workflow. We always love to hear and learn more!

Stripe Integration

Apart from processing payments manually with invoices, we want to make it possible for your clients to pay you directly by credit card. Also, while we do have plans to integrate with shop systems like WooCommerce, in a first step we wanted to make sure you don’t need a full shop setup just to process payments. Which is why we built a Stripe integration right into picu e-commerce.

We tried to make the setup as simple for you as we possibly could. The only thing you need is a Stripe account, from where you copy the API key. This key then gets added in picu Settings, you activate Stripe et voilà – your clients get redirected to Stripe when they hit the order button.

New / Updated Translations

picu speaks many languages besides English! With the kind help of our users and contributors, who translate picu and picu Pro into their language, we make sure that you can use picu to proof images even if your clients don’t speak English.

This month, we updated German (Switzerland) to 100% again, added Hungarian and worked on the French translation which should be available by next month as well.

All of this related to the free version, but we are already working on getting the Pro version on par with this as well!

Leaving Twitter/X

We didn’t feel too comfortable staying on Twitter/X with picu. So at the beginning of this year, we decided to move on and found new homes on Mastodon and Bluesky. We shared some of our thinking in here.

New Blogposts in January

Besides our small work-in-progress development updates, we also shared two new posts in our blog, which you might find interesting:

Next Up in February

  • Further work towards our upcoming e-commerce release
  • Release of our first custom block to list collections
  • Onboard our new translation editor to bring Hungarian support to picu Pro as well
  • Release of French Language

Ok, that’s it for January!

If you have any questions or feedback, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us, we love to hear from you.
