We are very pleased to announce the release of picu version 1.4.0, which introduces Lazy Loading for images as well as some smaller improvements. Let’s dive right in:
Lazy Loading in 1.4.0
As you probably have heard before, performance plays a very important role in the success of any website. A fast loading page can help to get a better ranking in search engines and offers a much better experience for your users. Due to its nature, online photo proofing deals with lots of images, which in turn are most often the #1 factor for a slow website. In picu, we don’t really need to think about search engines, as our proofing collections are excluded from them anyway, but the experience for clients is something we take very seriously and which should be the best it can be.
If you never heard of this before: ‘Lazy Loading’ is a technique to load only the images that are actually visible in the browser’s viewport, and then continuosly load the rest as the user scrolls.
We are very excited to introduce Lazy Loading in picu for everyone with version 1.4.0!
If everything works as intended (and boy did we test, to make sure it does!) you should probably never even notice anything at all. But under the hood, not loading ALL images at once has a massive positive impact on the speed for your clients.
picu in your language
Right now, picu is being used by more than 1000 photographers all around the world to manage their online photo proofing and to communicate with their clients. Many of them are not native english speaking, but want to use picu in their language. picu was built fully translatable right from the beginning and we are very honored by all the people who took the time and effort to translate it into their language already. As of today, picu is has been translated into Albanian, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and some first strings in Japanese, Swedish and Arabic. But – not all of those translations are complete and always up to date, and that’s why we would love to get some more people on board.
As we only speak German and English, those are the only languages we can provide ourselves, and for the rest we count on our users. If you feel like you could help us in translating picu into any language in any capacity, you can do so here. And if you have any questions or need help, let us know and we’re happy to assist you!

Right now, we are finalizing our next pro module Theft Protection, which will provide some often requested new features to prevent image theft, like Watermarking, Right-Click Protection or Hotlink-Prevention.
